The Rain ForestCanopy LevelThe rain forests of Costa Rica are awe-inspiring. They are so tall that there are three distinct environments, with different plants and animals living on each level. This picture shows the top level, taken from an arial tram. The tree in the center is called a broccoli tree, named after the shape of the branches that grow only on the level above the other trees. The Forest FloorMany plants that grow high above the ground send their roots down to the forest floor to find nourishment. Tarzan would have been right at home with all the roots and vines.     |
